Jesper Houborg is a freelance visual journalist with an ethnographic background based in Copenhagen, Denmark.
He is educated from the Danish School of Media and Journalism (BA), London College of Communication (MA) and Fatamorgana. During his training he completed a 12-month internship as a photojournalist at the Danish Daily Politiken.
Prior to his photography he worked as a development professional and teacher at the Danish Institute for Internationale Studies and Unicef India with an academic background in International Development Studies and Philosophy from Roskilde University and Universidad de Buenos Aires.
In his practice, he sees vulnerability as a driving force to explore the self and others, as a way to understand, to give dignity to the outskirt of society, or to issues being underrepresented.
He is attracted to existential questions that shape our human condition. His visual research explores the different conditions we live in globally. With a focus on the relationship between the Global North and Global South, he seeks to explore social issues related to representation, identity, climate change, human rights, power, and politics.
In 2020, by Wallpaper* magazine, he was selected as one of the future names in photography. For his work, he has won awards and honours at The Danish Picture of the Year, World Report Award and College Photographer of the Year, among others.
